Rebecca Ford

Travel writer

I’m an award-winning travel writer and guidebook author, as well as a broadcaster. My work has appeared in The Daily Mail, The Independent, The Guardian, The Daily Express and more and I’ve broadcast on the BBC. I’ve also written for publications such as Country Walking, Italia, and the London Evening Standard, created content for a variety of websites, such as the World Travel Guide, and written audio guides for historic properties, museums and gardens. I’m a qualified City of London guide too – contact me if you’d like to arrange a tour.

BOOKS

I’ve written, contributed to and updated over 45 guidebooks produced by publishers such as DK, the AA, Footprint and Insight. I recently contributed to the Eyewitness book on Gardens of the World, and updated their guide to Scotland. My UK travel guides have covered places such as Snowdonia and Pembrokeshire, York and Edinburgh and I’ve written a number of walking guides including the AA’s 50 Walks in Kent. I’m also the author of several guides to Italy.

ARTICLES

Over the years I’ve contributed to most UK national newspapers, from the Daily Telegraph to the Sunday Express. My work has also appeared in regional titles such as the Sunday Herald and specialist magazines including BBC History and Vegetarian Living.

I’m always looking out for a good story but particularly like to write about the UK, Italy, wildlife, railway journeys, walking, history and sustainable travel – as well as dog-friendly places to eat and sleep.

AWARDS

My guide to Tuscany, published by Footprint, won an award from the Italian Tourist Board for best guidebook. I have also won two awards from the British Guild of Travel Writers. One for an article on llama trekking in the Forest of Dean, another for a piece on the remote Gwaun Valley in Pembrokeshire. Both were published in the Daily Express.

I also won an award from the Lucca Tourist Board for an article on the city, which was also published in the Express.
